You have never climbed

Climbing a bolted route in Wadi Rum

Start with sport climbing: bolted routes from 5a to 6b+, with an abseil descent. Eid shows you the gear, the knots and belaying at the foot of the wall.

In half a day, you climb several routes and build confidence. All gear is provided, climbing shoes included.

You already climb indoors

Wadi Rum sandstone is nothing like resin holds: you climb on pockets, crimps and cracks shaped by the wind. Take the full day to find your feet, then move up in difficulty.

Tell us your indoor grade when booking. Eid picks the routes to match.

You are at ease on 6a

Crazy Camel is for you: four bolted pitches, about a hundred metres, from 6a+ to 6b+. It is the classic sport multi-pitch in Wadi Rum, in half a day.

Never done a multi-pitch? Eid explains belays and the abseil before you start.

You would rather walk with your hands

Group scrambling up the Jebel Rum slabs

Jebel Khazali goes up chimneys and natural ramps above a canyon of inscriptions: 600 m of ascent, 5 to 7 hours. It is the right first scramble.

Jebel Rum, 1,734 m, is longer and more exposed: 850 m of ascent, 6 to 8 hours. It needs excellent fitness and a head for heights.

Less technical, the Burdah Rock Bridge and Umm ad Dami, the highest summit in Jordan, each take a day. Details on our climbing page.

Climbing or scrambling: what is the difference?

Climbing means roped ascents on bolted routes, with shoes and gear. Scrambling means going up on foot using your hands, with no climbing technique.

Scrambles are graded: grade 2 to 3 on Khazali, grade 3 on Jebel Rum.

When to go?

Spring and autumn offer the best conditions. In summer, we only go early in the morning or late in the day.

After rain, we let the sandstone dry for a day: when wet, it becomes fragile.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need climbing experience?
Not for sport climbing: Eid picks easy routes and explains everything at the foot of the wall. For Crazy Camel, you need to be at ease on 6a.
What gear is provided?
Harness, helmet, ropes, quickdraws and belay gear are provided. Helmets are worn for the whole outing.
Can we climb after rain?
Not right away: wet sandstone becomes fragile, so we let the rock dry for a day. We then suggest another outing or another day.
Can I combine climbing with a night at camp?
Yes. For the scrambles and hikes (Jebel Rum, Jebel Khazali, Burdah, Umm ad Dami), the night at camp is included. For sport climbing and Crazy Camel, it is extra: 25 JOD for 1 person, 20 JOD per person from 2. Real beds under the stars: +25 JOD per person.
