My honest answer: at least one day and one night. Wadi Rum is not a monument you visit in two hours. The magic happens at sunset, around the fire and under the stars. Here is what you can do with half a day, one day, two days or three.

Half a day: a first taste

In 3 to 4 hours by 4×4 you see the classic sites near the village: Lawrence Spring, the red dune, Little Bridge, Khazali Canyon and Lawrence House. It is perfect if your schedule is tight, but you leave just when the desert becomes most beautiful.

One day and one night: our advice

Lantern-lit dinner at the camp in Wadi Rum
In the evening, dinner by lantern light

This is what we recommend to most travellers. A full day by 4×4 to the finest sites, as far as Burdah Rock Bridge and Um Fruth, a Bedouin lunch in the shade, the sunset, then dinner and a night in the desert. In the morning you wake up in the silence, with time for breakfast before leaving.

Two days: the red and the white desert

On the second day, we go south, to wilder places that few visitors see: hidden springs, white sand valleys, canyons and rock bridges. Ideal if you love walking and want to feel the desert without the crowds. See our 2-day Wadi Rum tour.

Three days: Wadi Rum in depth

Three days give you the great sites, the red and white desert of the south, and a panoramic climb through the Jebel Al-Hash area, with two nights in the desert. For hikers and anyone who wants to slow down. See our 3-day Wadi Rum tour.

Frequently asked questions

Is one day enough for Wadi Rum?
One day lets you see the main sites, but we strongly recommend staying one night: the sunset, the dinner by the fire and the stars are the heart of the experience.
Is it worth staying 2 nights in Wadi Rum?
Yes, if you love walking and quiet. The second day takes you to the wild south of the desert, far from the busy sites.
Can I visit Wadi Rum as a day trip from Petra or Aqaba?
Yes: Aqaba is 1 hour away and Petra 2 hours. Arrive in the morning for a half-day or full-day jeep tour.
