Petra and Wadi Rum are only 2 hours apart, and together they make the heart of a trip to Jordan: the pink city of the Nabataeans, then the silence of the desert. We are a Bedouin family from Wadi Rum: we take care of your days and nights in the desert, and of your transfer from or to Petra.

Petra and Wadi Rum: how to combine

The classic plan: one or two days in Petra, then 2 hours by road to Wadi Rum for a jeep tour and a night in the desert. From Wadi Rum, Aqaba and the Red Sea are only one hour away, and Amman is about 4 hours by the Desert Highway.

The transfer between Petra and Wadi Rum

A taxi between Wadi Musa (Petra) and the Wadi Rum Rest House costs about 40 JOD per vehicle, for about 2 hours. We arrange it at a fixed price when you book. There is also a morning bus from Petra to Wadi Rum, but no reliable bus in the other direction: details in how to get to Wadi Rum and Wadi Rum to Petra.

Petra first or Wadi Rum first?

Both work. Coming from Amman, Petra is on the way: Petra first, then Wadi Rum, then Aqaba or back north. Landing in Aqaba, start with Wadi Rum, one hour away, then go up to Petra. Our full comparison is in Petra and Wadi Rum: how many days?

An example itinerary

  • Day 1: Petra, the Siq, the Treasury and the Monastery
  • Day 2: morning in Petra or Little Petra, taxi to Wadi Rum in the early afternoon, half-day jeep tour, sunset, dinner and night in the desert
  • Day 3: sunrise, breakfast, then Aqaba and the Red Sea, or a second day in the desert
